4 Tips on Holiday Splurging Success

With the holiday’s around the corner, staying on track can be a scary and somewhat daunting thought. There’s Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s…..all the holidays that involve food, drinks, and festivities.

It’s the time of year where the weather gets cooler, and we love to be comforted by sweet treats and savory meals. In my opinion it is the best time of year because we are reminded of the joy of family and friends.

But it could be very easy to forget your weight loss and fitness goals, especially with an amazing piece of pumpkin pie staring you in the face.

So how do you get through the holidays and keep your waist line under control? Here are some tips!

1. Use Holiday functions as your cheat meal
Don’t let holiday functions ruin your progress. The truth is a holiday is one day here or there, and you can plan for it. Use it as your “cheat” meal for the week, and indulge away. I love the holidays and I work hard in the gym to be able to enjoy these times with my family guilt free, and you should too. Don’t feel guilty. Live it up. Have your best holiday meal yet, and then get back on track the next day. One meal isn’t going to ruin your success.

2. Make healthy versions of holiday favorites

Whether you are going to a event at someone’s house or having friends and family over to your house, you can make a healthy version of a dish to share. Healthy doesn’t mean bland or boring. Make it fun, creative and yummy. Then fill your plate with it, and share it with your friends.

3. Don’t keep leftovers in the house
So you have a amazing meal and you enjoy yourself. Everything is all good until you are eating the leftovers for a week straight, and then all of your progress goes down the drain. One of the easiest tricks is to not keep leftovers around. Give them away to guests and get them out of the house as fast as possible. Not having the leftovers in the fridge temping you for days is the easiest way to stay on track with your fitness goals, with no willpower needed.

4. HIIT a few more high intensity sessions
High intensity interval sessions or circuits is a fast way to burn some serious calories. HIIT workouts are a great way to keep your daily calories balances in check as you enjoy your holiday treats and celebrations. So maybe throw a few HIIT session in on a holiday week and balance your fun treats out a bit.

Don’t be scared to enjoy yourself this holiday season. There really is no reason to feel like you can’t be fit and have a big slice of pumpkin pie too. Enjoy, eat, and drink your way to success while enjoying the celebrations with the ones you love.
